چکیده

In this paper, a biosensors based on two-dimensional photonic crystal (2D PhC) waveguide including ring resonator is designed and simulated refractive index changes of red blood cells. The proposed biosensor structure consists an elliptical two linear waveguides containing silicon nitride rods in 2D rectangular lattice with circular rods. utilized to detect the stages Plasmodium falciparum cycle cells diagnose malaria disease. design distinguishes high sensitivity between normal infected falciparum. This very compact, gold air background works well at input central wavelengths 0.514 1.55 μm. finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method used simulate investigate device. extremely compact which suitable for lab-on-chip applications exhibits higher both compared that previously reported sensors.

Deformability of Plasmodium falciparum Parasitized Red Blood Cells

The biophysical properties of the human red blood cell (RBC) permit large deformations required for passage through narrow capillaries and spleen sinusoids. Several pathologic conditions alter RBC deformability that can result in abnormal circulation behavior. In the present work, altered RBC deformability caused by invading Plasmodium falciparum parasites, which are responsible for the disease...

Refractive index maps and membrane dynamics of human red blood cells parasitized by Plasmodium falciparum.

Parasitization by malaria-inducing Plasmodium falciparum leads to structural, biochemical, and mechanical modifications to the host red blood cells (RBCs). To study these modifications, we investigate two intrinsic indicators: the refractive index and membrane fluctuations in P. falciparum-invaded human RBCs (Pf-RBCs). We report experimental connections between these intrinsic indicators and pa...

Microfluidic biomechanical assay for red blood cells parasitized by Plasmodium falciparum.

Red blood cells parasitized by Plasmodium falciparum can be distinguished from uninfected cells and characterized on the basis of reduced deformability. To enable improved and simplified analysis, we developed a microfluidic device to measure red blood cell deformability using precisely controlled pressure. Individual red blood cells are deformed through multiple funnel-shaped constrictions wit...

The deformability of red blood cells parasitized by Plasmodium falciparum and P. vivax.

Red blood cells (RBCs) must deform considerably during their multiple passages through the microvasculature and the sinusoids of the spleen. RBCs infected with Plasmodium falciparum (Pf-IRBCs) become increasingly rigid as they mature but avoid splenic clearance by sequestering in venules and capillaries. In contrast, RBCs infected with P. vivax (Pv-IRBCs) do not sequester. We compared the effec...

Quantifying the biophysical characteristics of Plasmodium-falciparum-parasitized red blood cells in microcirculation.

The pathogenicity of Plasmodium falciparum (Pf) malaria results from the stiffening of red blood cells (RBCs) and its ability to adhere to endothelial cells (cytoadherence). The dynamics of Pf-parasitized RBCs is studied by three-dimensional mesoscopic simulations of flow in cylindrical capillaries in order to predict the flow resistance enhancement at different parasitemia levels. In addition,...
